Xubuntu-10.10 vs Linux Mint Xfce 9

Linux Mint Xfce 9 is based on Ubuntu 10.04. Xubuntu-10.10 is based on the more up-to-date software of Ubuntu 10.10. Both are Linux distributions whose software has come from the Debian project via Ubuntu. The use the Xfce desktop environment, which is an alternative to GNOME designed for slower computers. Xfce includes software that uses the GTK+ toolkit.

[edit] Advantages and Disadvantages

  • Linux Mint Xfce 9 has problems with usb sticks
  • The default repository of Linux Mint Xfce 9 had missing packages (404) when I tried it out.
  • Mint comes with codecs for playing mp3 music, flash video, etc while Ubuntu does not.
  • Mint Xfce 9 is a Long-term-support release and will receive security updates until April 2013. Xubuntu 10.10 will only receive updates until April 2012.
