Xbox 360 vs Playstation 3
Pros of the 360 would be that there are excellent games such as the Halo and Gears of War series and the new Splinter Cell: Conviction as console exclusives (meaning only 360 owners can play them) and it has a larger catalogue of games (but this is mostly things like Trivial Pursuit or Viva Pinata).
Cons of the 360 are its internal fans are very loud and lots of people complain about them and they are far more likely to break down than PS3s - some people have had 2 or more 360s break with normal use! Also, XBox live (Microsofts online service) charges an annual fee.
Pros of the PS3: It is a media hub, meaning you can store pictures, video, music, game data and other things all on it's internal HDD. Also, the raw power of PS3 is greater than that of the 360 (thats a fact, not opinion!) which means you will get better graphics, shorter loading times and bigger, better games (such as Uncharted and Killzone) which the 360 just cannot handle. BluRay is also built in to every PS3, so you can watch films in High-Definition and with better sound quality. Also uses built-in, wireless internet.
Cons of PS3: It does cost more to buy a PS3 and the peripherials (controllers etc) cost slightly more, but the online is completely free. The PS3 has a smaller catalogue of games too (649 as opposed to 761), but PS3 games are more focused on gamers rather than familiesTemplate:Citation needed and offer more variety (and less chainsaws) than the somewhat indifferent 360 games. Pros
In my opinion, the PS3 is the better option. I own a PS3 myself and I have never had any issues with it, there are plenty of games at very good prices now and the online service is very reliable. Also, it is very easy and cheap to upgrade the HDD yourself and it doesn't void any warranties.
Note: This article compares Playstation 3 Slim with Xbox 360 Elite
Microsoft's Xbox 360 console was launched on November 22nd 2005 - but the 'Elite' version was released on August 24th 2007. As of June 2010, a new, smaller, redesigned Xbox was released but there is not enough data on reliability to fairly compare it. Sony's PS3 was launched on November 11th 2006 but has also been redesigned - with a change of logo. This comparison takes the redesigned console as it has been out long enough to gauge how good it is.
It's time for the greatest battle of all time. The PS2 had no real competitor, and Sony were shocked to see their third system loose sales due to the 360 and (most of all) the Wii. But, as we may find out, the one who makes the most money isn't necessarily the best.
[edit] Hardware
Who packs the biggest punch. Lets see.
Processor The brain of the whole machine. In a games console, a better processor means more realistic simulations and smoother gameplay.Template:Citation needed The 360 is powered by a triple-core AMD 3.2GHz Power-PC based CPU.
The Playstation 3 is powered by an 8 Core Cell Microprocessor which is used in IBM's Roadrunner (the most powerful computer in the world). The Cell is far more powerful than the 360's CPU and is built for speed and streaming. It works by using a PPE (power processing element) to organise and feed tasks to the eight SPEs (synergistic processing elements). Six SPEs can be used by games as one is switched off to reduce load on the PPE and the other is reserved for the Playstation's operating system
