Openbox and Xfce are offered as window managers / desktop environments for various Linux distributions.

The popularity and availability of Xfce is greater. Openbox may be more suitable for slow computers.

As of Feb 2011, several of the prior versions of Linux Mint (but not the most up-to-date version) are available in Openbox editions. Xfce has not been available on most versions of Linux Mint.

Xfce is available pre-packaged with every release of Ubuntu (Xubuntu). It works well with almost any hardware and software that can be used with GNU/Linux. The Fedora distribution's community also regularly releases Xfce editions.

Conveniences like Gmail integration with one's desktop, or configuration tools to choose which file types open with which applications, may not be available in Openbox or Xfce. The more-popular Xfce is generally quicker to get support for these kinds of features.
