Edward Cullen and Jacob Black are characters in the Twilight fantasy series by Stephenie Meyers. The series revolve around the protagonist, Bella Swan, and her choice between them— the former a vampire and the latter a werewolf. This issue is hotly debated in Twilight fandom.

Though Edward Cullen appears to be a human teenager, he is actually a vampire over a hundred years old. Upon closer examination, more differences become apparent: he sparkles in the sun, has superhuman speed and telekinetic powers, feels icy to the touch, does not bleed, does not age, and drinks blood. Despite the previously mentioned, he manages to maintain his cover of being a student at the local high school, which Bella also attends. Edward is in love with Bella and determined to protect Bella from harm, though not without setbacks. When not with Bella, he lives with his adopted vampire family, the Cullens. Edward is portrayed by actor Robert Pattinson in the movies.

Descended from a Native American tribe with supernatural underpinnings, Jacob Black is a member of a werewolf pack. When angered or threatened, he transforms into a giant wolf-like creature; hence, a werewolf. Aside from that, Jacob's body temperature also runs about ten degrees higher than the standard 98.6°F. Also in love with Bella, his love is unfortunately not requited by Bella, or at least, not to the same level that which Bella requites to Edward. Still, he continues to attempt to protect Bella not matter how many times she spurns his advances. Jacob is portrayed by actor Taylor Lautner in the movies.

"Edward vs. Jacob" is the topic of a recent a Burger King advertisement campaign. In addition, it has generated a glut of websites devoted to arguing the pros and cons of the two choices.
