Chinese Chess and Korean Chess are very similar games that use the same board and pieces. The differences lie in the rules and the beginning layout of the pieces.

[edit] Differences in Rules

In Korean chess, one player can force the opponent to accept a tie or avoid the tie by placing one's own King in direct view of the opponent's King. The opponent must either accept a tie or break the direct view between the Kings by either placing a piece in the line of sight or by moving the King.

[edit] Differences in Initial Layout

In Chinese chess, the King is placed in the last line. In Korean chess, the King is placed in the center of the square. In Korean chess, the Horse(馬) and Elephant(象,相) pieces may be switched around before the game starts.
